Product Description
The first edition of this ceramic tile-topped table appeared at the Triton Hotel (now Heritance Ahungalla) in 1982, alongside a concrete-topped version featuring a leaf impression. A longer version serves as a coffee table at the De Saram House, the home of Geoffrey Bawa’s friends, pianist Druvi and Sharmini de Saram, which he renovated in 1986. Other examples of this table can be seen at No. 11, his own home on 33rd Lane, which was at the heart of his social and professional life in Colombo.
This re-edition by Phantom Hands is an exact reproduction of the centre table at De Saram House in terms of dimensions. The marble stone tiles used for the tabletop are leftover offcuts from TAB SURFACES, one of India’s leading stone processing companies, bringing an element of upcycling and sustainability into the table’s production.
