Unfolding Lamp (Metal)

The origin of this distinctive lamp is not definitively known, but it is most likely an adaptation in metal, of a paper lantern Bawa acquired from Harrods, London, in the 1960s. A version of the lamp in a clear finish can be seen in the guest suite at Number 11. A blue version sits on the front terrace at Lunuganga.

Phantom Hands’ re-edition is made in aluminium with a clear anodised finish. The intricate shapes on the lamp are laser-cut aluminium sheets, meticulously buffed, then bent into shape by hand. The various parts of the lamp stay in place with a sliding-and-locking mechanism that is an integral part of the design. The lamp comes with a 7W LED bulb and an e27 bulb holder.
