Unfolding Lamp (Metal)

The origin of this distinctive lamp is not clearly known, but it is likely an adaptation in metal of a paper lantern Bawa acquired from the London department store, Harrods, in the 1960s. A version of the lamp in a clear finish is displayed in the guest suite at Number 11. A blue version resides on the front terrace at Lunuganga.

Phantom Hands’ re-edition is made in aluminium with a clear anodised finish. The intricate shapes on the lamp are laser cut on aluminium sheets, meticulously buffed and then bent into shape by hand. The various parts of the lamp stay in place with a sliding and locking mechanism that is an integral part of the design. The lamp comes with a 7W LED bulb and an e27 bulb holder.
