Office Cane Chair (V leg) - Black Finish

A re-edition of the Office Cane Chair designed originally for various administrative buildings in Chandigarh; the teak is stained in this variant to give it an opaque black finish. The chair is completely handmade and nuances such as finger joints, inclination of the seat, bowed backrest, gentle rounding of edges along the length of the arms & legs - are given due attention in our edition. Rustic elements of the originals are preserved; for example, the cane is not coloured or polished and cane-work knots at the back of chairs are left exposed. The chair has been stained black and finished with a matte PU coat.

The Office Chair was the first model we prototyped for our Project Chandigarh collection. Original vintage chairs at the Architecture Museum and Corbusier Centre in Chandigarh were studied to refine our model.

Pierre Jeanneret designed the Office Cane Chair for the Old Architect’s office (1956) in Chandigarh. Subsequently, this chair was used in The Secretariat (1958), Punjab University and various other buildings. The Office Cane Chair became one of the most widely used chairs in Chandigarh. Incidentally, the old Architect’s Office in which Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret worked is now the Corbusier Centre in Chandigarh.
