Armless Dining Chair - Natural Teak finish

A re-edition of the Armless Chair originally made for the Punjab University in Chandigarh. The chair has ‘V’ type flared triangular legs with two flat crossbars supporting the legs. Grooves at the back of the chair for canework knots are cut in a way that partially hides the knots. The chair has been finished with colourless polish to bring out the natural colour of the wood. No varnish or paint has been used in the finish.

Several versions of the Cane and Teak Armless Chair were designed by Pierre Jeanneret for the Punjab University campus. Variants of this model were made with round crossbars, legs attached to the side of the seat, wooden slats instead of cane seating and with leather upholstery. The armless chair models were made for the male and female student residences (hostels) of the university. Variants of these chairs have come to be known as Pierre Jeanneret Dining Chairs in the vintage furniture market.
