Celebrating Indian Craftsmanship

The core of  Phantom Hands is our artisans. The name 'Phantom Hands' is a metaphor for the artisans who have inherited these skills from generation to generation. Each object we make is in a sense a culmination of centuries of craftsmanship.
We have created an ecosystem of craftsmen from across India - our carpenters are from the Indian states of Rajasthan, from a community that has practiced woodworking for generations. Our wood polishers are from Gorakhpur, a town in the state of Uttar Pradesh in Northern India. Our cane weavers are from a single family hailing from the town of Karaikudi in southern India.

Our production facilities include outdoor and indoor areas and provide our craftspersons a healthy and inspiring work environment.  They are compensated well above market rates and provided medical and life insurance coverage, apart from free housing.
