History
Many towns and villages in Burma are renowned for their cane handicrafts, especially basket weaving. Burma (Myanmar) is also one of the foremost cane (rattan) growing regions of the world. Since colonial times, Burmese cane baskets have made their way to India and were used as picnic baskets, linen baskets and general storage baskets. Burmese craft objects were found in most households in Chettinad in Tamil Nadu, brought back by the Chettiar traders who had business links with Burma.

Burmese made and sourced from an antique dealer in Chettinad.

Condition
Good condition with a minor breakage on one of the cane strands.
