A traditional vintage Burmese wicker basket, meant to be used as a cradle. The basket has four loops that can be used to suspend it using ropes. The hand woven cane basket is woven with great skill and can also be used for storing blankets or linen.

Many towns and villages in Burma are renowned for their cane handicrafts, especially basket weaving. Burma (Myanmar) is also one of the foremost cane (rattan) growing regions of the world. Since colonial times, Burmese cane baskets have made their way to India and were used as picnic baskets, linen baskets and general storage baskets. Burmese craft objects were found in most households in Chettinad in Tamil Nadu, brought back by the Chettiar traders who had business links with Burma.

Burmese made and sourced from an antique dealer in Chettinad.
Good condition with a minor breakage on one of the cane strands.
